PEDAL FOR SCOTLAND SUNDAY 27TH 2006

Team Luma Design, consisting of Gordon Seath, Kenny Herdman and Stephen Weir, departed from George Square, Glasgow 09:40 on a damp Sunday morning, it had been raining before the start and we were expecting to get wet at some point of the day.

We left Glasgow heading east through Easterhouse towards Coatbridge, we choose not to stop at the first pit stop at Drumpellier Country Park and decide to keep pushing on through Coatbridge and Airdrie. The inevitable rain came as we were leaving Airdrie, but it didn’t last for long and didn’t dampen our spirits. We made an unscheduled pit stop at Avonbridge Church Hall (23 miles) to top up the water bottles and we were quickly back on our way again to our planed stop in Linlithgow (31 miles) where one of the event sponsors had laid on a pasta party for all participants to have a hot snack before the completing the last 20 miles.

Within ½ mile of leaving Linlithgow we were hit with a problem, Stephen pulled up with a muscle strain on one of his legs, but was determined to continue the last 20 miles. We had no choice but to slow the pace down to help Stephen to the end. Fortunately for us the run from Linlithgow to Edinburgh through Kirkliston was relatively flat and despite Kenny picking up a slow puncture we made relatively good time and crossed the finish line outside Murryfield Stadium having cycled for just over 3 ½ hours, not bad for our first attempt, but I think we will need to train harder for next years event.

We would also like to say thank you to everyone who has sponsored us or have given us a donation to Breast Cancer Care UK. We picked Breast Cancer Care UK to be our chosen charity because, in November 2003 a close family member was diagnosed with stage three aggressive breast cancer. This came as a complete shock to my family and after some invasive treatment and now nearly three years on, I am glad to say that the cancer is currently in remission.  However, the after shock of such a diagnosis is still apparent and although we can all now see some light at the end of the tunnel we have had experience of those who are not so lucky, therefore we wanted to do something positive that might help other sufferers in the future.

As a thank you to the companies who provided commercial donations to our team I have added their logos and contact e-mail addresses or links to their websites.

We are also involved in other fund raising events on behalf of Breast Cancer Care UK this year and we will update this page with our total monies raised through this and the other events.

Thank you again for all of your support.

Gordon Seath.
